Design and oversight of cost studies, health economic analyses, and budget impact analyses

Health Economics Assessment and Budget Impact Analysis

• Studies that evaluate the efficiency of a new health technology relative to a benchmark (cost-effectiveness and cost-utility studies) and employ a variety of methodologies, including clinical trials, real-world data studies, and modeling;
• Budget impact analyses, which measure the financial impact of the adoption of a health technology on a payer’s budget (Medicare, hospital, health insurance provider) and are primarily based on simulation and modeling.

For these two types of studies, MedConsult assists you in identifying the economic questions and study assumptions, designing the methodology (from the literature review to drafting the protocol, as well as developing research tools: patient logs, cost data collection forms, questionnaires, and database query forms), implementation, and monitoring (monitoring data collection, supervising statistical analyses, and interpreting results).

These studies may be funded through hospital research project grants (such as PHRC and PRME), special funding programs (such as the innovation grant and RIHN), or industrial or private funding. They may also be eligible for BPI funding; Nathalie PREAUBERT, our economic evaluation manager, is accredited by BPI France to assist with methodological design and project proposal drafting.

Cost studies

• Assessing the burdenof disease—that is, the resources consumed, the costs to the healthcare system, and the factors driving these costs—based on literature reviews, analysis of hospital databases, and health insurance data,
• Actual cost studies based on micro-costing methodologies or cost reconstruction methodologies;
• Studies of hospital costs based on the analysis of hospital databases.
